Full course description

The IHWAP Training Certification Program (TCP) is a comprehensive, hands-on learning experience designed to prepare professionals for success in weatherization and building performance fields.

Hosted by Indoor Climate Research & Training (ICRT), an IREC-accredited facility, the TCP combines theoretical knowledge with practical application through 9 core courses. Participants will engage in classroom lectures, lab exercises, role-playing, and in-field assessments to gain real-world experience.

Certification Opportunities:

  • IHWAP Energy Auditor Certification:
To obtain certification, participants must complete all 9 core TCP courses, pass a written proficiency exam, and complete an in-field assessment. Certification is finalized by passing the Assessment Certification Field Exam, administered by the Illinois Department of Commerce & Economic Opportunity.

  • BPI Energy Auditor (EA) and Quality Control Inspector (QCI) Certifications:
Individuals who have passed both the TCP and the in-field State assessment certification are able to apply for and challenge the BPI Energy Auditor (EA) certification. Upon successful completion of the BPI EA certification, they are then able to pursue Quality Control Inspector (QCI) certification by completing an additional four-day course and passing the final exam, also administered by ICRT.

There are two ways to gain access to the TCP online learning platform:
